Do PEN and IBBY Award a Plagiarist?
I declare that
Ms. Miep Diekmann, a member of PEN Netherland and a "Honorary" member of IBBY, is a swindler.
She fraudulently claims to be the author of the book "I Have No Name" /in Dutch "Ik heb geen naam", in German "Ich habe keinen Namen"/. In fact the book was originally written in Czech under the name
" Nemám žádné jméno"
by my mother - Dagmar Hilarová. In March 1943 was
14 years old
Dagmar deported to Terezín concentration camp. During her imprisonment she kept a diary which she rewrote after the war into a book called "I Have No Name".
By the end of 1970-ies the Dutch Miep Diekmann offered to Dagmar Hilarová that she would enable publishing of the book in the Netherlands.
After the translation of the Dagmar Hilarová’s book into Dutch Miep Diekmann added a gloss to the book in which she claimed that she herself created the book from fragments of Dagmar Hilarová’s memories the poetess who could not write prose.
With this false addition to the book Miep Diekmann published the Dagmar Hilarová’s work in the Netherlands and Germany in many editions:

The cover of the book by Dagmar Hilarová (the issue 1984)
"I have no name" is an authentic story of the Czech Dagmar Hilarová,
recorded and processed by Miep Diekmann.
On the internet page of Miep Diekmann
you can read that Dagmar Hilarová lived
"an inactive life on a benefit".
The falsehood
of this statement which tries to tell that Dagmar Hilarová could not have written the book can be proved by the list of publications by Dagmar Hilarová on the
Wikipedia.
On the page of Miep Diekmann
you can also read that it was very difficult
"to create a clear story from her experiences, which at times were not very clear".
Again, another false statement:
The Czech manuscript of the book is stored as part of the Czech cultural heritage in PNP Prague, Czech Republic.
The translations of the Chamber of Certified Translators have proved the identity of both Dutch and German editions with this
Czech manuscript.
The sole exclusive author of the book,
both of the prose and the poetry,
is Dagmar Hilarová.

For the magazine Reflex
Miep Diekmann declared:
"I am the author. It is my book. Dagmar wrote only fragmentary notes. The fact, that we split royalties into half, was generous. Author of the topic usually receives only ten percent."

The most popular book "by Miep Diekmann" is "Nemám žádné jméno" which has been written by Dagmar Hilarová!
PEN Charter
declares in the Article 4 this commitment of all members of PEN:
"members pledge themselves to oppose such evils of a free press
as mendacious publication, deliberate falsehood and distortions of fact for political and
personal ends".
The life lived in a fraud
Miep Diekmann: "I take life as a great tragicomedy"
Miep Diekmann, claiming for more than 3 decades to be the author of the book by Dagmar Hilarová, grossly offended the
Charter
of PEN Club and by stealing the work of Terezín inmate she inflicted another blow to the real author. Dagmar Hilarová much suffered by the theft of her pivotal work, which badly influenced her health. She died in the year 1996.
The fact that
the best "honorary" member of IBBY is a crook and a thief
casts a shadow over the whole organization. PEN and IBBY should officially revise their attitudes towards the plagiarist and the real author of the book. Therefore I suggest the following:
1. |
To exclude Miep Diekmann from PEN.
|
2. |
To deprive Miep Diekmann of the Honorary Membership of IBBY.
|
3. |
Miep Diekmann should also return three awards which she received as the author of the afore-mentioned book.
|
4. |
The real author of the book did not see justice in her life time. If IBBY and PEN showed their respect to Dagmar Hilarová and her work in memoriam, it would be a moral satisfaction.
